Faith, Free Will, and the Paths We Walk

by | Feb 20, 2025

Life has a way of throwing unexpected detours in our path—often because of choices made by others. When faced with pain or hardship caused by someone else’s decisions, it’s natural to wonder:

“How could God allow this?”

But maybe it’s not about what God allowed. Maybe it’s about free will.

God’s Reverence for Free Will

God has given each of us the gift of choice. He won’t take away free will—not from you, and not from anyone else. If He did, it would contradict the very essence of His word. The Bible tells a story of love, redemption, and choice. We are not puppets, and neither are those around us.

This means people will make choices—some good, some bad. Sometimes, those choices impact us in ways that change our lives forever.

The Unchanging Path of God

It would be nice if we were big enough to create our own perfect path—to avoid heartbreak, betrayal, and suffering. But while we can make our own choices, we cannot change the path of God.

What does this mean? It means that even when someone’s actions make your journey harder, you are still walking the path God has set before you. You are not lost. You are not forgotten. You are simply moving through a part of your journey that will one day make sense in the greater picture.

Feelings Are Temporary, Faith is Eternal

Pain, anger, sadness—these emotions feel all-consuming in the moment. But no matter how permanent they seem, feelings are temporary.

Everything here on Earth is fleeting. The one thing that remains? The path God has for you.

Making Decisions with Peace

Hardship can cloud judgment. When emotions are high, the temptation to react is strong. But never make big decisions while in crisis.

💡 Wait until you feel peace.

💡 Trust that clarity will come.

💡 Move forward only when you are certain.

God does not rush us. He does not demand that we figure everything out today. He simply asks us to trust that His path remains—even when it feels uncertain.

If you’re struggling, know this: You are still on your path. You are still being guided. And no one—not even those who have hurt you—can take that away.

When a choice by someone else has affected the way you feel and will live the rest of your life, some people may say how can God allow this… It is not that God allowed it. God has a reverence for free will and he will not take that away from you or anyone. If he did there would be pieces of The Bible that would be incorrect and we cannot have that… it would be nice If we were big enough to create our own path, yet we are not big enough to change the path of God. We can make our own choices and they can even make our path more difficult. We are not getting out of this world without finishing our path. I am living proof of that. Feelings are temporary just like all things here on Earth. They may feel so permanent, yet we all know that they are temporary. Never make big decisions while in crisis. Wait until you feel perfect peace about the decisions you are making and then move forward with the understanding that you are on the right path.” -Rose Monk
